3 equine products I would recommend as a qualified vet physio…
There are so many equine therapy products on the market claiming to help your horse in different ways, it’s so easy to believe the marketing and think that you are doing the best thing by buying the latest thing. To try and help wade through the minefield that is therapy products I have put together a short list of 5 products that I would recommend to most horse owners (and things I have loved as a horse owner myself!).
Long hot water bottles
These sound strange, but the long thin hot water bottles are a great, cost-effective option to the Epiony heat pad. Make sure you get them with the fluffy covers to protect your horse’s skin, buy two and tape them together and voila! they sit perfectly on your horse’s back muscles and are typically long enough to go from behind their scapula (shoulder) to behind the saddle region. I would recommend securing them with an elastic surcingle to stop them slipping off, and remember never apply for more than 15 minutes at a time!
Equilibrium Massage Pad
These are worth every penny; they are such a great way of keep your horse’s back supple in-between physiotherapy treatments. Plus, they are really easy to put on and set-up, they can be put on under their rug on colder days ideal for before or after a ride. Most horse’s tend to find them really relaxing too.
Hay feeders
These are such a simple way to alter and encourage a more natural eating posture without the mess of a pile of loose hay. Haynets can cause strain on the neck, increase dental wear and when tied too high the heightened grazing posture causes hollowing of the back and a sub-optimal posture. In an ideal world your horse would have a variety of grazing positions available to them in their stable, but this is not always practical. These hay feeders come in a variety of styles and you can shop around for the one that works for you, your horse and their environment.
